Denver Broncos are using this free agency very strategically. After signing new head coach Sean Payton to a five-year deal last month, the Broncos will be looking forward to bouncing back from the slump they faced last season. The Broncos signed Russell Wilson last year for a $245 million five-year contract as a probable solution to their offensive gaps. But Wilson had the worst possible start with the Broncos as he put out career-low numbers in his debut. Now, under Payton, the Broncos are restructuring and rebuilding themselves. Payton seems to be recruiting offensive players who played under him in the past, with the likes of Tony Jones and Chris Manhertz joining the list.

But it is this recent under-the-radar free agency move by Payton and the Broncos that might spill the beans about Patrick Mahomes and his winning secrets with the Chiefs.

The Broncos have a lot of holes to fill in the roster this spring. And they have been aggressively moving forward to fulfill Sean Payton’s free-agency wishlist. Recently, they signed another player who did not create a lot of headlines about his trade. It is former Chiefs FB, Michael Burton.

After spending two years with Kansas City Chiefs since joining in 2021, Michael Burton will be joining his former HC, who he played under New Orleans Saints once again at the Broncos. He joins the list of other players who formerly played under Payton when he was with the Saints. This will be Burton’s sixth move in a career spanning over nine years.

Michael Burton joins the Broncos after the team allowed their TE/FB Andrew Beck to walk in the free agency week. Burton reportedly signed a one-year $1.3 million deal with the Broncos. After being a part of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl-winning season, it seems like Burton will bring in secrets of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ strategies and game plans that helped them achieve SB victory.

With the way they are moving in free agency, it seems like the Broncos are getting ready for a shapeshift under Payton for making the best out of a lowly last-season showcase.

The Broncos are reworking their roster under the name of Payton next year. While the team and fans will be hoping for a Russell Wilson resurgence for the team, they have taken their precautionary steps by signing a backup QB in the form of Jarrett Stidham. Apart from these, they are taking aggressive steps in order to bolster their offensive arsenal for the new season in the NFL.

They have signed guard Ben Powers, linebacker Alex Singleton, right tackle Mike McGlinchey, and RB Samaje Perine to name a few. It seems like the team under Payton is finally making smart investments for the long-term betterment of the franchise, rather than last year’s cash out on a single player.

It will be an interesting time for fans as they watch every step of the Broncos during this trade window. While fans will be waiting for Wilson to show his $245 million worth, Payton will continue to build a team that will be worthy of a Super Bowl title contention in 2023.
