Former Bucs TE Rob Gronkowski and NFL GOAT Tom Brady share an interesting connection. Gronk and Brady played together for both the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Incidentally, the tight end has played the entire 11 years of his career with the legend. As a result, when Gronk’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said it would not surprise him if the TE rejoins the QB sometime this season, it did not shock the fans either.

When Tom Brady called Gronk back out of retirement

Interestingly, the playmaker Brady once convinced his long-standing teammate to come out of retirement. TB’s personal phone call and his words gave a rethinking to Gronkowski. Later on, Gronk too admitted the role of the GOAT in his return to the game.

Teammate, friend, and brother are just a few of the words that come to mind when I think of Gronk. Nobody has ever embodied the idea of ‘leaving it all out on the field’ as Rob has throughout his entire career. Every single snap, I knew that no matter how many people you put in front of him, he was going to get to his spot,” Brady said via Pro Football Talk.

However, the TE announced his second retirement in June 2022. Reacting to the 33-year-old’s retirement, Brady did not make a second move but wished him hearty greetings for a fruitful future.

What Gronk and his friendship mean to Brady

Talking further, the NFL GOAT remarked on what made his long-time friend a unique custodian of the game. “Even more important is the person he was off the field. Focused when he had to be and had fun the rest of the time. Having Gronk in your locker room was every NFL player’s dream. I’m proud of all that we’ve accomplished together, and even more excited for all you have ahead of you. Congrats, Gronk, you deserve it,” said Brady.

Gronkowski is a four-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler. He is third all-time in receiving touchdowns among tight ends. The duo has also won four Super Bowl titles together. As a result of their long-standing bond, there are high chances that Gronk may reconsider his opinion if a call arrives.

A spirited individual, Brady brushed aside retirement talks as he aimed for his eighth ring. The question is whether he would invite his long-time friend to join the enduring journey. Perhaps time will tell if Gronk will join his QB again.
