Sanders’ brilliant efforts at Jackson State have gone on to get famous rapper, Diddy to pledge a huge amount of money. He even spoke about why he was giving such a sizeable contribution to the cause of an HBCU.

After his brilliant career in the NFL as well as the MLB, Sanders transitioned into coaching football. Prime went on to take up the head coach position at Jackson State. While he was coaching there, he was able to flip the narrative of the HBCU being a losing football team. However, he was able to bring about a change, setting up a winning record of 27 wins and 6 losses. After this, an HBCU alum from Howard University, Diddy seemed to be moved enough to dedicate a huge sum of money to Jackson State. As per Sports Illustrated, Diddy went on to say, “Before I leave, I want to donate $1 million dollars to Howard University. Also, I’m going to drop another million dollars on Deion Sanders and Jackson State because we should play for us.”
Admittedly, Coach Prime was a largely determining factor in terms of ensuring that Jackson State was able to turn its whole football program around. Additionally, Sanders was able to ensure not just a rise in success on the field. He was also able to help facilitate a lot of monetary gain for the players as well as the program.

The Prime Effect at Jackson State
Sanders brought about a great amount of publicity and money to Jackson State as well as the surrounding businesses through winning games. Coach Prime contributed in terms of leading Jackson State’s team to the 2022 SWAC Football Championship. This brilliant championship went on to bring about revenue of almost $8 million. Furthermore, there were four home games that Sanders advertised brilliantly. The games generated $16.2 million in revenue for businesses in Jackson. This brought on a huge jump compared to the revenue of $7.2 million in 2017.
All in all, Sanders has been able to bring about brilliant economic progress not just for the university but Jackson as a whole itself. It would make complete sense that someone like Diddy would invest such a huge sum of money into the university. It only remains to be seen how well the $1 million investment will be used by Jackson State in the upcoming season.
