This offseason has been all about franchise quarterbacks wanting trades. Be it, Aaron Rodgers or Deshaun Watson, the word surrounding the future of these elite quarterbacks have dominated headlines.

While the future of Aaron Rodgers at least for now has been sorted out, the same can’t be said about Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Watson had a stellar 2020 campaign despite all the chaos ensuing in the background with the Texans franchise. In fact, last season was his best campaign in the league so far.

But things quickly went south between Watson and the team’s management after they reportedly snubbed the QB when it came to hiring a new Head Coach and GM even after specifically wanting to be a part of the conversation.

Watson wanted a trade and multiple teams were ready to pounce on him making life very difficult for new GM Nick Caserio. But off-field controversies soon hit Watson and suddenly the quarterback became an unwanted man.

Still on the Texans‘ roster, Watson turned up for training camp. But his future with the franchise still remains unclear.

Texans yet to decide on what to do with Deshaun Watson

With Deshaun Watson turning up for training camp, the question on everyone’s mind was whether or not the quarterback would remain a Texan through 2021.

New General Manager Nick Caserio held a press conference before the start of training camp. And to no surprise, the GM was bombarded with questions regarding Watson’s future.

But given the volatility surrounding Watson, Caserio declined to answer a single question about the QB. The only response anyone could muster was, “We’ll take it one day at a time.”

The GM did say though that their star QB had cleared a conditioning test after reporting to training camp. But any other information about Watson’s was held back.

Caserio said that he didn’t want to indulge in any individual discussion about a particular player’s availability and said that the team would do what they feel is best suited to their interests.

“We’re going to do what we feel is best for the organization,” he said evading another question about Watson. Teams will be wary of Watson’s ongoing off-field issues before making any move.
