The quarterback for Carolina Panthers did not expect this season to be as morose as it got for him. Baker Mayfield, the starting passer for the Panthers, who suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 5, could leave his walking boot on Friday and, according to interim coach Steve Wilks, he absolutely could be the backup to PJ Walker.
Although the Panthers defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, the win came with a price.

#Panthers interim coach Steve Wilks tells reporters that QB P.J. Walker will start Sunday even if the others are healthy. He has earned it.

The Panthers shut out the Buccaneers for three quarters behind P J Walker, allowing only one field goal in the fourth. The offense, meanwhile, scored three touchdowns over the Bucs’ defense. They accomplished all of this while working under interim head coach Steve Wilks, who has only been in the position for 13 days.
The 27-year-old wasn’t very impressive on Sunday, but Wilks’ strong praise for him highlights how dire the Panthers’ QB situation has been. Before he had attempted a test pass, Mayfield was being prepared for a comeback season. As soon as the season started, Mayfield was terrible, straining to perform and appearing to be the worst version of himself. Therefore, it looks like he lost another QB job this season.

By dealing Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers, the Browns finally ended their long-awaited relationship with him.
The general manager John Dorsey first selected Mayfield overall in 2018 after Cleveland went a combined 1-31 the previous two seasons. The Browns will receive a conditional fifth-round pick in 2024. Additionally, the Browns have agreed to contribute around $10.5 million to Mayfield’s $18.885 million contract.
