San Francisco 49ers rookie QB Trey Lance might be going through mixed emotions right now, with the official news that he will be the starting QB for the first time in his career so far, but against a team who has gone unbeaten throughout their four weeks into the 2021 regular season.
Although it is a make-or-break situation for the youngster as a win against them will not only help build a reputation but also get Niners a much-needed W to stay alive in the NFC West division race after suffering two straight losses against the Packers and the Seahawks.

However, head coach Kyle Shanahan said that the anointment isn’t to state Lance as their starter, “Our starting QB is out, and if he was 100%, he’d be starting.” Evidently for Shanahan, Lance, as a starting QB isn’t the ideal decision to make just yet, but in the absence of Jimmy, he seems to be in a pleasing form.
As for the rookie, it is a golden opportunity to prove his worth and what he can accomplish even against unbeaten teams like the Cardinals. Although along with Lance, Nate Sudfeld also steps up as the QB2 in the Week 5 roster of the Niners in case the Lance trump card doesn’t play out as planned.
