The latest in America’s unsettling series of gun violence unfolded last Friday. On August 25, a fire shot rang out during a Friday night football game at Georgetown High School. Following the blast, the officials called off the halftime game between  Georgetown Bulldogs and Andrews Yellow Jackets. Thankfully no injuries were reported.

According to several outlets, what started as a cross-county altercation led to a blast of firing in the parking lot outside the Tommy Smith stadium, the venue of the match. While the Georgetown officials are yet to make any arrests, the focus has narrowed down to a 19-year-old young man believed to be responsible for the turmoil.

Several charges against the suspect

According to the Georgetown Police Department, a teen who goes by Tyrell Douglas Handy is accused of a range of charges related to the fire blast incident. The charges levied against Handy include aggravated breach of peace, discharging a firearm in the city limits, malicious injury to personal property, and possession of a weapon on school Property.

The officials took to Facebook, sharing the suspect’s photo, and asking for the assistance of the public in their investigation of the incident.

Just when the Yellow Jackets went into halftime with a 30-27 lead over the Bulldogs during the game, a large brawl broke out outside the venue with a firing ensued outside the stadium. The blast reportedly came from a truck. As per the instructions from the cops, the PA announcer advised the audience to evacuate the stadium after calling off the match. By 10.30 the scene was cleared.

“The area was secured and deemed safe, and everyone was able to leave without further incident,” the police department stated in a news release.

No injuries reported

No grave injuries were reported as of now related to the shooting incident. The authorities are going on with the investigation. One of the testimonies collected from local sources revealed that the vehicle involved in the incident, believed to be the source of the blast, was linked to a 16-year-old student.

The wave of high school shooting tragedies showed no signs of rest when another grim incident was reported in Okhalama on the same day. In an unrelated high school football game on Friday night in the state, shots were fired, resulting in the tragic death of a 16-year-old, and several others being injured. The police authorities have not identified any suspects yet, and are actively pursuing the investigation.
