The last few weeks have brought up the RB argument to the forefront of the NFL world. Just days after Stephen A. Smith came forward defending the plight of the RBs in the NFL, talking about Barkley and Jacobs and Henry. O. J. Simpson has come forward to talk about the RB argument in the last couple of days.

Simpson has never shied away from sharing his takes on the latest developments in sports. His words could help many in understanding the precarious position Barkley found himself in just before he committed to the Giants.

O. J. starts off with his customary, “yours truly” before diving into the details of how he sees the situation. The 6x Pro Bowl winner adds, “Saquon Barkley signed, and I think it was an absolute right thing for him to do. Even though I think he got screwed a little bit.” Simpson defends Barkley and says, “It’s just not fair…..the great backs don’t rotate that much. Saquon, he’s virtually always on the field….The great backs you don’t really take them off the field that much.”

He called out the DL regarding the rotational circumstance, as there are those who only step on the field in certain situations. The former Bills WR doubles down on his stance towards Barkley and states, “Saquon got it all. I mean, he’s strong as hell, but what he has, a lot of these guys don’t have.” Simpson’s words hit hard when one factor in Barkley’s deal for next year since he has been franchise tagged by the Giants.

After months of speculation and negotiation, Giants finally reached an agreement with their RB on a 1-year deal. The drama that had engulfed the franchise and the RB stemmed from the belief that Barkley deserved a better contract, something the Giants weren’t willing to comply with. Following the agreement which will bag the RB almost $11 million, it ended the awkward standoff that had been protracted for months covering the offseason. But the standoff wasn’t the only option considered in the last couple of months.

Following the tagging of their RB, the Giants turned around in an effort to trade him to another franchise. After calling up more than 10 teams in their bid to move on the RB, they could not find any suitors for Barkley. What’s surprising is that the request came from Barkley’s camp to consider a trade away.
