The Kansas City Chiefs reached their fifth straight AFC Championship game on Saturday night. The 27-20 win propelled Patrick Mahomes and Co for a rematch of last year’s conference championship bout against Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals. However, Patrick’s injury is hindering the celebrations in a major way.

According to the results of his most recent MRI scan, the Chiefs quarterback suffered a high ankle sprain in the win over Trevor Lawrence and the Jags. However, Mahomes returned to play the game despite the injury, and he is mentally confident about playing the Bengals next week. And fans pray that he is right.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter’s report, “MRI today confirmed that Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain during Saturday’s win over the Jaguars, per league source. ‘Nothing more than that,’ said one source, and Mahomes has said he plans to play in next Sunday’s AFC Championship Game,” Schefter tweeted.

However, despite Patrick Mahomes’ optimism, fans and experts doubt his availability given the seriousness of high ankle sprains.

Mahomes and Kelce had huge praise for Chad Henne

16-year veteran backup QB Chad Henne stepped up in the most heroic manner possible. Patrick Mahomes had to go back to the locker room after the injury to get the x-rays done. Despite Mahomes’ vehement objection to leaving the game, HC Andy Reid made sure Mahomes listened.

The initial assessment and x-rays came back negative. And Mahomes came back from injury in the 3rd quarter to score another touchdown over 118 yards of passing.

However, in Mahomes’ absence in the second half, Chad Henne displayed extreme cool as he drove the offense for 98 yards, which culminated with a Travis Kelce touchdown. Kelce dedicated the game ball to Henne and chanted ‘Henne-thing is possible!’ “Just the most ready-to-go-at-all-times quarterback, ended up being the difference in the game,” Mahomes said after the game.
