Bill Belichick is not the most forthcoming individual in the NFL world. However, his lack of verbal responses to pressing questions is tolerable, given his success with the Patriots in the past. However, the last few seasons haven’t been a smooth ride for the franchise that was once an indomitable dynasty.
With the departure of seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady in 2020, the Patriots have struggled to find their footing in an aggressively competitive league. Recently, the franchise has also been encircled in rumors concerning a potential acquisition of QB Lamar Jackson. When asked about the situation, Belichick’s response may have extinguished Pats fans’ hopes. Here’s a look at what he said.

As part of his media availability during the NFL owners’ meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, Bill Belichick was asked about Lamar Jackson.
His response was quite predictable. Belichick said, “I’m not going to talk about players on any other team.” While this statement is as insightful as a non-answer, does it indicate that the Patriots won’t be showing any interest in acquiring the talented QB?

No one would want to be in Lamar Jackson’s shoes at present. The QB recently revealed that he wanted to leave the Ravens. With the non-exclusive franchise stage, Jackson will have to wait for offers from other franchises. However, at present, there have been no concrete reports indicating official interest from any team. But, the Patriots could benefit from having Jackson on board after witnessing not-so-exceptional performances from those they have on the roster. When asked about the franchise’s two current quarterbacks, the head coach offered some insight into what the situation would look like.

Belichick spoke of the Pats’ QB situation
When asked if current QBs Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe would have to compete for playing time, the head coach refrained from offering more information than necessary. In typical Belichick fashion, he said, “Everybody will get a chance to play. We’ll play our best players.” While Belichick’s statement is clear, the fact that both Jones and Zappe have the same opportunities could indicate that the former’s shot at holding on to the QB1 position is open to changes.
