“Not an Easy Time”: Vegas Leader Davante Adams Reflects on Teammates Prenup Like Situation Amidst Tense Negotiations

The Raiders haven’t had the best of seasons in recent memory. But their saving grace has been their draft pick from half a decade ago, Josh Jacobs. The RB took the league by storm, winning the Pro Bowl and the All-Pro award in 2022. The off-season hasn’t been in the same spectrum with the franchise and the player at odds over a contract extension. Teammate and mentor, Davante Adams has stepped in to shed light on the scenes behind the doors.

Over the years, the former Packers WR has been involved in some tricky negotiations. And his words could help the young man as he sits down to decide on his contract with the new season just weeks away.

Davante Adams gives his counsel to the RB

Adams has been one of the consistent WRs in the last three years in the NFL, averaging a minimum of 10 TDs a season. His performances with the Packers earned him the Franchise Tag in 2022, only to be traded to the Raiders in the off-season. Someone with his experience can guide the young NFL stars looking to decide about their own contract. And in the latest interview, he may have given Jacobs something to think about.

During the latest offseason interview, Adams shed light on what it’s like to be involved in a contract muddle. The Raiders man reflected on his role as a WR and a counsel to those around him, including Jacobs at the moment. The WR adds, “My role is still, I mean,….ball ends on and to do it a lot of times and…..help my teammates grow….. it’s helping and providing that counsel to anybody….obviously Josh in this in this moment because this is not an easy time to go through.”

He added, “When it’s the business time this is always when it kind of gets awkward. It’s kind of like you know when it’s time to talk about a prenup with your lady.” After bagging the $140 million contract with the Raiders, Adams has learned more than a thing or two about tough negotiations. Since he likens it to a prenuptial conversation with one’s partner which they just want to get over with. Jacobs finds himself in the exact situation as the contract drama continues to unfold.

Josh Jacobs contract conundrum

After just making one playoff appearance in the last six seasons, the Raiders find themselves amid a complicated extension. One of their best players, Josh Jacobs, is at odds with the franchise on the contract front. Having won both individual honors available last season, Jacobs is threatening to run his contract down with the Raiders. The franchise is unwilling to hand out a lucrative contract for the RB who signed with them back in 2019.

This refusal has put them between a rock and a hard place. Since Jacobs has already completed his four years in the NFL, he can move on with little resistance. Should the Raiders fail to tie down their star RB to a new contract, Jacobs could ask for a record-breaking contract for an RB.

While there remains time on Jacobs’s contract with the Raiders, it will put a clock on the negotiations. If the Raiders fail to tag him soon enough, the other teams in the league will consider making an approach for the RB.
