Both Wilson and Smith have been dating since 2019. In 2020, the 22-year-old soccer star signed with the Portland Thoms to play in the NWSL, which put the duo in a long-distance relationship. But distance was never a problem for the couple as they navigated through the highs and lows of life together.

And now, in a recent post by the NFL on Instagram, Michael Wilson wrote a heartwarming letter for his girlfriend ahead of her first world cup appearance. In the letter, the rookie WR talked about how Smith is the “most special person” in his life. He went on to state that he is proud to see her grow in her professional career as a soccer star and that she has “every single tool and trade to dominate soccer’s biggest stage.” Wilson wrote, “No one deserves this more than you. You were born for this moment and I am excited the entire world is going to see who you are.” This will certainly drive Sophia Smith to perform well in her debut world cup appearance after clinching the MVP title last season in the NWSL.
While the 22-year-old soccer star continues her world cup campaign with her team, Michael Wilson will also be looking forward to making a name for himself in the NFL.

Will Wilson make it big in the Cardinals?
The 23-year-old WR was not on board the hype train like other wide receivers such as Quentin Johnson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, or other top players in the draft. During the rookie minicamp a month back, Wilson said that he is looking forward to “just earning the respect of the locker room.” And HC Jonathan Gannon is confident of the rookie WR growing into a great player for the team. He said, “He’s doing a really good job, specially for a rookie. I think in any offense it moves a little fast and where we are today, he’s light years ahead of when he came in here for rookie minicamp. So that’s good to see.” His playtime in the upcoming season will be subjective to his capabilities to fit in with the offensive playbook.
But fans will be waiting in anticipation to see this rookie on the field, Wilson can be confident that his soccer girlfriend will be there, cheering him on in his own professional football journey.
