Patrick Mahomes has been an MVP candidate in almost every full season he has played since 2018. In his first season, he put up a 5000-yarder and won the NFL MVP accolade. But, when 2020 Super Bowl champion teammate and star wideout Tyreek Hill left Mahomes before this season, it didn’t look so good for Pat and the Chiefs.

However, Patrick Mahomes II has once again proven to the NFL world that he is the point of difference. Even with Tyreek joining the Miami Dolphins in the off-season, the Chiefs signal-caller cruised through for the franchise’s seventh straight AFC West Divisional title. And then there’s the matter of the incredible numbers he put up this year.

Mahomes just surpassed former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and cemented himself in NFL history. With 5,614 total offensive yards this season, the 2020 Super Bowl MVP has crossed Super Bowl XLIV MVP Brees’ 5,562 yards to set the single-season record by a quarterback. And this is without the 1687 receiving yards Tyreek Hill has for the Dolphins instead of the Chiefs this year.

In addition to that, according to Rich Eisen’s data sheet, Patrick Mahomes also ranks 4th in the NFL’s all-time passing leaderboard with this season’s stellar display.

Mahomes’s 5250 passing yards this year is only behind Peyton Manning‘s 5,477 (2013), Drew Brees’ 5,476 (2011), and Tom Brady‘s 5316 passing yards from his 2021 Super Bowl championship season.

The youngest NFL and Super Bowl MVP is on an unstoppable run this season. And Patrick Mahomes has specifically made it his mission to point out to Tyreek that his absence is perhaps not that crucial to the success of the Chiefs.

Among his league-leading 41 touchdowns this year, the Kansas City Chiefs and former Texas Tech QB threw 28 of those canon balls to his running backs and tight ends. Pat tied this number for the NFL record with HOF-er NY Giants QB Y. A. Tittle. And he’s had some help. More specifically, Travis Kelce, who is on a tangent to become the greatest TE in the history of the NFL. Kelce already broke former NE Patriots and Buccaneers TE Rob Gronkowski‘s NFL record with his 33rd 100-yard game as a TE this season.
