The 2020 NCAA college football season was truly a peculiar affair. The ongoing COVID-19 outbreak meant that last year’s college football season was shrouded in mystery. But the season did go ahead with some obstacles here and there. The ongoing outbreak of a new COVID-19 strain threatens the CFP National Championship game between Alabama and Ohio is still under threat. But there is one man who will not be too bothered by any of these issues, Alabama WR DeVonta Smith.

DeVonta Smith wins Heisman Trophy after historic season with Alabama

After a record-breaking season with Alabama, Smith was rightly adjudged as the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner ahead of the likes of Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields and others. After winning the prestigious award, DeVonta had some words of advice for budding footballers across the United States.
He said, “It’s just, it’s just unbelievable, just coming from a small place like that. You just really have to work day in and day out and just believe in yourself. And if nobody else believes you, you just have to believe in yourself and just prove everybody wrong.”

“I’m not the biggest, I’ve been doubted a lot just because of my size. So really, it just comes down to you put your mind to it, you can do it…if you put your mind to it, you can do it and just keep believing in God,” Smith said after winning the award.

DeVonta is the first wide receiver to win the Heisman Trophy since Desmond Howard did so in 1991. The 2021 Rose Bowl MVP leads the FBS in receptions (105), receiving yards (1,641) and receiving touchdowns (20). The promising youngster dropped just two passes all season. He will be in demand at this year’s NFL draft as teams look to bring in ‘the next big thing’.
