Super Bowl 50 champion DeMarcus Ware reached the pinnacle of his NFL career wearing the orange of Denver Broncos. However, despite winning the Lombardi with Denver, the 9x Pro Bowler has always identified as a die-hard Cowboy. The Dallas Cowboys, who drafted him, recently got an edge over the Broncos Nation. Ware chose his HoF presenter from his family back in Arlington over the one at Denver. And it couldn’t have been anyone but the king of Jerry World, Jerry Jones.

And it’s not like the Cowboys owner had any idea about it. DeMarcus recently surprised the 80-year-old GM and President at the Arlington facility and popped the all-important question. ‘Will you be my presenter?’ Well, not exactly like that, but it was emotional enough to get instant approval from Jones.

Jones wasn’t expecting to run into his former star pass-rusher DeMarcus Ware. And the latter didn’t wait too long before overwhelming Jerry with the new information at hand. “I’m here because you were the voice that welcomed me into the Hall of Fame. And I want you to be that voice that keeps going. I want you to be my presenter this year for the Hall of Fame,” DeMarcus said.

Jerry was beside himself with staggering emotions, smiling ear-to-ear before hugging Ware. “I just can’t tell you what an honor it is. I mean, it’s really because it’s you, but it means more to me than me being in the Hall of Fame, because I know what you’re a part of and that’s how I got into the Hall of Fame, just standing and rubbing up with you,” the billionaire said.

This will be the fourth time Jerry earns the Hall of Fame presenter honors. He has previously done it for Dallas legends Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, and Larry Allen. This year’s induction ceremony in August will also include former Jet Joe Klecko, Chuck Howley, Darrelle Revis, Ronde Barber, and others alongside DeMarcus. However, Ware’s drafting story makes his presenter connection much more special.

Without Jerry, there would be no Dallas legacy for DeMarcus

Mr Jones knows the story well and I’m grateful he’ll have a chance to share it,” DeMarcus captioned his Instagram video, asking Jerry. This must have something to do with Jerry’s insurmountable role in drafting DeMarcus Ware. The owner fought then-Dallas Cowboys HC Bill Parcell to choose Ware for the 11th pick over Parcell’s desired LSU candidate, Marcus Spears.

Parcell even wrote a signed agreement letter citing several conditions for Ware’s success. For example, if the DB didn’t average 10-11 sacks a year, “Bill Parcells gets five trips a year on Mr. Jones’ G5 [private jet] to his destination.

Jerry’s counter-demand was brutal in its own right. However, Ware saved his owner a lot of private jet fuel when he averaged 12.9 sacks per year over the next 5 seasons.

Ware’s 20 sacks led the league in 2008, and he remains the franchise’s all-time leader in sacks (117). Surely, the HoF-er’s enshrinement was only a matter of time after he already graced the NFL All-Decade Team of the 2000s.
