NFL insider Adam Schefter unveiled this news to the outside world. “And now HC Jeff Saturday has made the announcement official: QB Nick Foles will start Monday night vs. the Chargers.” he wrote on Twitter.

Interestingly, this is the second time the Colts‘ management benched Ryan after acquiring the former Cardinals passer this season. Last time it was Sam Ehlinger who replaced Ryan, and now Foles’ arrival has raised concerns about his availability next year. Indeed, the poor record has been one of the most prominent reasons.

“Just didn’t feel like we made enough plays offensively,” coach Jeff Saturday said about the decision. “It’s no secret. We haven’t converted in the red zone. And ultimately, you’ve gotta make plays in the NFL, and we’re not making nearly enough explosive plays.” he added, detailing more about the terrible loss against the Vikings, per ESPN.

Similarly, the sudden promotion to start the games came as a surprise for Foles. He admitted having no hopes of getting the job. Because he was a third-string prospect, and the season is about to end with few games to spare. Hence, the upcoming match-ups will prove, as an opportunity for him to get back to his winning ways and relish the Super Bowl victory he had against Tom Brady in 2018.

The Colts are currently progressing with a season record of 4-9-1 and are placed third in the AFC with no chances to contend for the playoffs.
