A team could have a loaded roster, but if their players are injured then it becomes almost impossible to campaign for a Super Bowl. Some of the best teams in the NFL have faced issues here when their players have been injured. A prime example of this was during last season’s Super Bowl when Patrick Mahomes had to play with an injured ankle, giving Chiefs’ fans a huge scare. However, the Chiefs ended up getting lucky with their players. Not all teams had the same luck or success.
There were teams who placed more than 20 players on injured reserve. Due to this, the teams’ record suffered. With crucial players injured, a lot of teams weren’t even able to make it past the Wild Card Round. However, one such team is determined to rectify their poor record from the last season.
Will this injured NFL team make a comeback with their new regime?

On paper, the Denver Broncos are one of the most balanced teams in terms of their defense and their offense. However, due to a high number of injured players, they weren’t able to perform to their fullest. During the 2022 season, they had 25 players placed on injured reserve. Notably, this made them the second-highest team with injured players after Tennessee Titans. To add salt to their wound, even their QB, Russell Wilson underperformed in the 2022 season. However, it seems like they’re ready to remedy this. With new leadership under Sean Payton, the Broncos are looking to make their upcoming season more fruitful. As per the Broncos Wire, Payton has taken huge steps to mitigate injuries.
Payton mentioned that the preseason will be slightly different this year. The Broncos starters are scheduled to play in the summer preseason games. Furthermore, the Broncos have also hired a new strength coach as well as a conditioning coach. Finally, one of the most valuable addition is probably the addition of their new vice president of player health and performance. The vice president received some glowing praise from Payton.

The latest addition to the Broncos staff that Payton endorsed
The Broncos have hired Beau Lowery as the vice president for player health and performance. The head coach, Payton gave Lowery a glowing endorsement for his previous efforts. Payton mentioned that he has worked with Lowery before. He said that Lowery has been outstanding in the past when it comes to dealing with players’ injuries. Payton also mentioned that Lowery is good at gaining the trust of the players. Furthermore, Payton also said, “This past offseason, Drew [Brees] had a shoulder procedure done separate from football. When the surgery was finished, he flew to Baton Rouge to have Beau and his group work on it. It’s something you earn with your players.” All in all, Payton seems convinced that with these measures the injuries can be mitigated to some extent.
Football is a sport of injuries. However, these injuries can be worked on and reduced if not completely avoided. It seems like with these new measures, this is what the Broncos are aiming for. It only remains to be seen how fruitful these new changes will be for the team.
