The only silver lining to the Damar Hamlin incident on Monday was to see the entire NFL community come together in this time of need. There was only a singular voice of support behind it and nothing else. Even the GoFundMe page set up by Damar to buy toys for underprivileged kids received outstanding support from the people. However, in the middle of all this, there were those who saw the opportunity to use this grim situation for their own good.
Scammers are using Damar Hamlin as bait for unsuspecting people
Multiple cases of fake GoFundMe pages sporting similar names and causes to one of the Buffalo Bills‘ player have been reported. While there are people who are trying to support Hamlin and his family through all of this. There are also those who are trying to fraud the former for their own personal gains. According to Marca, the website is continuously taking down these pages, but there is always more to deal with. The NFL world has found this ordeal “sickening”.

The platform has told TMZ via a spokesperson that there’s only one verified fundraiser on their platform. That is the one Hamlin set up and the one his family confirmed. It is called: The Chasing M’s Foundation Community Toy Drive.
After the horrific incident on Monday, the drive collected more than $6 million in donations.

The NFL world is pleased to see the player’s condition improve
This morning, there was a very positive development for all those following the updates about Hamlin. According to the player’s agent Ronal Butler, Damar is now awake and holding hands with family members. In addition to this, CNN released a report which states that he is also communicating with other, although not verbally yet.
After suffering a cardiac arrest on the field during a Monday night game with the Bengals, Hamlin was taken to a hospital. Consequently, he was in critical condition, but now the player is finally showing “Substantial Development” according to his doctor.

The NFL has canceled the important game that was postponed on Monday. The league is currently only focused on the well-being of Damar. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell shared his thoughts with the media. “We continue to focus on the recovery of Damar Hamlin and are encouraged by the improvements in his condition.” Goodell added. “We are also incredibly appreciative of the amazing work of the medical personnel. And commend each and every one of them.”
