When talking about the greatest team in the NFL all-time, it’s the 1972 Miami Dolphins that wins the debate. However, the 1985 Chicago Bears aren’t very far behind in that debate. In fact, many would choose the 85′ Bears over the 72′ Dolphins. And it brings a whole new perspective into play.
The Dolphins are the only team that went undefeated throughout the season and the Bears lost one. However, there are still many things into consideration and the absolute dominance of the offense and the defense is one factor of it. Can we also watch Payton score a touchdown in a super bowl blowout, instead of some overrated defensive lineman's number that got called? That would be really awesome!

Richard Dent. Underrated.

I watched this game and Marshall returning that fumble in the snow was instantly iconic. It was a moment where I knew I was watching greatness that might never be surpassed.

Why 1985 Chicago Bears were the greatest team of all time?
The 1985 Chicago Bears is arguably considered the greatest team of all time over the undefeated 1972 Miami Dolphins. It’s because of several reasons. One because the team featured the obliterating trio of RB Walter Payton, the Offensive Player of the Year, MLB Mike Singletary, the Defensive Player of the Year, and head coach Mike Ditka the Coach of the Year.

Apart from that, the team scored a total of four shutout wins, two of which came in the playoffs. Furthermore, the Bears allowed only five teams to score more than 10 points against them throughout the season. The dominance of that defense was simply unimaginable and the centerpiece of the defense was MLB Mike Singletary.
Including the DPOY the 85′ Bears defense also featured RDE Richard Dent, who totaled 17 sacks that season, RDT William Perry, who returned 66 yards of recovered fumbles, and of course the phenomenal Wilber Marshall who recorded 78 solo tackles and 78 combo tackles. It was truly a brigade of beasts.
