NFL Twitter in Awe After Viral Clip Showing Patrick Mahomes Practicing Popular Week 4 Touchdown Move Before the Game Against Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes comes from a sporting family. He is the husband of a former professional soccer player Brittany Mahomes and the son of a former MLB pitcher Patrick Lavon Mahomes. And sure enough, this multi-sporting background is slowly finding its way into the gridiron. But not the way one would expect.

During the pregame preparations for the Chiefs vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers game, Mahomes was seen indulging in a bit of fun with his teammates. In the video, Mahomes and some of his teammates are seen playing basketball, while another player stands at the hoop. Mahomes is able to successfully score from a distance while being marked, sending the players into celebration. What is more interesting is its impact in-game.

With 11:36 left in the 2nd quarter, the Chiefs are on 2nd and Goal. Unable to pass the ball straight away, he avoids a tackle from a charging Bucs player. And then, he runs towards the goal.

As the Bucs’ defenders close down on him, he does a spin, and then lobs the ball above the defenders, straight into the hands of Clyde Edwards-Helaire for a touchdown. And the throw happens right on the line of scrimmage, showcasing an unnatural sense of awareness.

At halftime, this comparison is first brought forward by NBC presenter Maria Taylor, who promptly uploaded the same to her Twitter handle. And the response was as expected: a community awestruck at Mahomes’ talents. Fans praised Mahomes for his awareness and preparedness before the game. 

Although, his stint in basketball comes only from his time at school, fans know that Mahomes has used his previous baseball experience on the gridiron. And Mahomes himself has admitted that his baseball and basketball skills have helped him improve as a quarterback. But apart from this, the major takeaway for fans is that the Chiefs have a lot of smart players taking the field for them.
