The highly-rated NFL running back Le’Veon Bell arrived in New York with great expectations. The former Pittsburgh Steelers man signed a four-year deal with the New York Jets in 2019.
His deal with the Jets was worth $52.5 million with $35 million in guarantees. But after playing in just 19 games, the seasoned running back parted ways with the Jets, as was confirmed tonight.
New York Jets GM Joe Douglas confirmed on the team’s official Twitter handle that Bell was released with immediate effect. The experienced NFL star earned a total of $28 million after just 18 games with the Jets.

As per the above statement, it was clear that the Jets were looking to secure a trade deal for Bell. However, after considerable efforts, they could not come to an agreement with Le’Veon and his agent.
This is exactly why Douglas, in tandem with Head Coach Adam Gase, opted to terminate Bell’s contract with immediate effect.
Sources: The Jets have been in touch with other teams in an effort to trade RB Le'Veon Bell (as @MMehtaNYDN reported). Sounds like they're willing to settle for a late pick and/or back-end player in return.
Bell is due $6M (plus per-game roster bonuses) for the rest of '20.

Bell has been an underwhelming presence for the Jets in 2020. He played in just two games this year with 74 rushing yards on 19 carries.
The New York-based franchise remain winless after five games with coach Gase under immense pressure to improve their results. Despite all the criticism directed at him, it seemed that Bell still had the support of Jets fans.
Hey @LeVeonBell,
Know that we love and appreciate everything you’ve done since joining the #Jets.
Some are going to try to tarnish your name and change the narrative, but we won’t let that happen.
We see you. We get you. Now find a team that does the same.

Which teams could make a move for Bell before the deadline day?
As per reports in various media outlets, Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots and the Ben Roethlisberger-led Pittsburgh Steelers are some of the viable destinations available to Bell.
The Patriots are having a decent season with Cam Newton, and the addition of Bell could boost their offensive prowess in the second half of the season.

Le’Veon could also make a shock return to Pittsburgh and reunite with Mike Tomlin. Previously, Bell spent five productive years with the Steelers between 2013-2018.
