Home/NFL

Growing up, most people dream of being in the NFL, but only a few ‘chosen ones’ get to live their dream. Even college athletes face setbacks, as only 1.6 percent make it through to the big leagues. Fate clearly plays a massive part, maybe that’s why it’s a pity that many footballers decide to throw their lives away when they’re given one of the greatest opportunities on earth that countless people want to have.

Whether it’s a college player jeopardizing his future, or an established NFL pro landing in legal trouble, they not only damage their future but tarnish the image of the whole league. One NFL professional landed himself in a similar situation, and the only way out seems to be accountability.

It was just his second season in the NFL and Henry Ruggs caused a car crash resulting in the tragic death of a 23-year-old woman. Immediately after the unfortunate incident, Las Vegas Raiders released Ruggs. He was accused of driving at a speed of 156 MPH, while drunk, beyond the legal limit, killing Tina Tintor and her dog.

It wasn’t the sheer impact of the crash that claimed Tintor’s life, but the car caught on fire and she died of thermal injuries. Two years after the incident, Ruggs has finally decided to take responsibility. He intends to plead guilty to DUI resulting in death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

The plea deal isn’t exactly an ideal one for Henry Ruggs, as he is set to serve anywhere close to three to ten years in prison.

While Ruggs seeks to atone for the grave sin committed at his hands, Tintor’s family and representatives are still continuing with their fight for justice and seems like Henry Ruggs is also chasing closure.

A gruesome incident unfolds

Speaking on Henry Ruggs and his decision to plead guilty, his attorneys said in a statement, “This is the first step toward a fair resolution to this matter and we look forward to closure for all the parties involved”.

Police reports suggested that Ruggs’ sports car slammed into the rear of a Toyota RAV4 in the early hours of 2 November 2021. Following the impact, the Toyota caught fire and Tina Tintor and her dog burned to death.

Immediately after the gruesome incident, Ruggs was put under house arrest for 18 months following a $150,000 bond. To make matters worse, police also found a loaded handgun in Ruggs’ demolished Chevrolet Corvette after the crash, but those charges are all going to be set aside as Ruggs awaits his verdict.
