In his peak playing years, former Cowboys legend Herschel Walker was nearly unstoppable on the field. And years after hanging up his cleats, the former running back keeps going. However, this time he ran not with the pigskin but as the Republican candidate in the Georgia state elections. And this was sure to bring in some criticism from the other side.
The most recent one came on the popular comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live. And no, this time it wasn’t legendary stand-up comedian Dave Chappelle doing the roasting. This was the current SNL cast’s doing. Herschel Walker became the butt of a joke where the former running back was a convenient candidate to manipulate and, for a lack of a better word, stupid.

Comedian Kenan Thompson portrayed Walker as a happy-go-lucky nominee who was extremely easy to please. Sometimes a luncheon table will do the trick. The sketch starts off with a joke about Walker’s late arrival at the meeting. “I’m sorry I’m late. I was having too much fun in that free merry-go-round y’all got out front,” Kenan (Herschel) said. James Austin Johnson, who played Senator Mitch McConnell, provided the punchline. “That’s a revolving door,” he said.
Herschel Walker kinda had the jokes coming, given his controversial background
Herschel Walker will have to keep SNL jokes aside since he has bigger things to worry about. Walker lost the Georgia primary to Democratic candidate Raphael Warnock on a 51-49 per cent vote count. This didn’t come as a surprise to many, since Walker was involved in domestic violence and forced pregnancy abortion controversies back in his playing days. And SNL made some jokes about that as well.
Walker did enjoy a dominant career with multiple franchises in the league, earning him 2 consecutive Pro Bowl selections. In his 12-year NFL career, the former Heisman Trophy-winning running back played for four franchises. He spent time with the Vikings, the Eagles and the New York Giants. However, his most celebrated playing phase was his two stints with the Dallas Cowboys. Herschel had 8225 total rushing yards with two 1000+ yards rushing seasons in his career. Walker also recorded nearly 5000 receiving yards to go with his 61 rushing TDs and 21 receiving TDs.

SNL is known for sketches revolving around politicians since the time of the show’s inception. And after the primary loss, Herschel Walker will just have to take the joke like a man and move on. “I don’t take it personally,” Herschel said to Fox News reacting to the roast.
