The National Basketball Association recently revamped many of its trophies to honour the legends of the game. One of the biggest changes was the introduction of the Michael Jordan Trophy. The trophy named after the GOAT will be given to the regular season MVP in the NBA. This is a great honor for MJ.  However, NFL legend, Shannon Sharpe is still sticking with his guy LeBron James as the greatest to step on the courts. Further questioning the trophy name and wondering how the NBA will honour LeBron?

Shannon Sharpe is one of the biggest admirers of James. So much so, that he argued that the current Lakers’ player is even better than the sensational Michael Jordan. While his co-host Skip Bayless on their show ‘Undisputed’ is a Jordan fan, these discussions often get heated. Recently following the same theme, Bayless mentioned the couple of years MJ had to take off during his career. But Sharpe was not buying any of it. According to the NFL icon, the former Bulls’ legend just could not put up with the pressure. On the other hand, the retired TE also mentioned how LeBron has had a much longer career, even with social media in the picture.

“Can you imagine if social media was out when Michael Jordan was around? You think he’s a hermit now?” Added Sharpe. “My guy (LeBron) has thrived in the social media era.”

Michael Jordan stepped away from basketball for a year and a half after the 1993 season. While the legend tried his luck at Baseball, he returned to the Bulls in 1995. Following his return, the team went on to do another three-peat from 1996 to 1998.

When will LeBron James have a trophy named after him?

In the recent years, the NFL has renamed and relaunched multiple trophies. Last year, Stephen Curry won the first ever Magic Johnson trophy for being the West Conference final’s MVP. On the other hand, Jayson Tatum bagged the Larry Bird Eastern Conference Finals MVP award. Now more names are in the mix. Like the Wilt Chamberlain Rookie of the Year, Jerry West Clutch Player of the Year and many more.

While most of the awards seem to have already been named after one legend or another Shannon Sharpe is waiting to see how the NBA will use James’ name. The TE even had an idea. He thinks now the only award they should name after James is the ‘LeBron James GOAT award.’
