For the longest time, Tom Brady was famous for being the ‘Ultimate Patriot.’ A thorough professional, who keeps his head down and focuses on the job. That’s it. Has moving to Tampa Bay changed his perception drastically? HOF Tight End Shannon Sharpe says that it is getting nauseating how much attention Tom Brady needs.

Recently, Brady tweeted out asking if Elon Musk could delete his NFL Combine picture from the social network. It is undoubtedly an unflattering picture. But it was a thinly veiled attempt to get in on the trending stuff, as Sharpe pointed out.

The Tight End-Turned-TV Analyst said that Brady did a fantastic job of “pretending that he doesn’t like the attention”, early in his career. But ever since he made the move to Tampa, he’s let loose a lot more. And that has shown just how much attention the 7-time Super Bowl Winner needs.

The short-lived retirement was also a window into the athlete’s mind. It seems that the fans now see him a little differently than before. A similar feeling arose when Brett Favre was moving around the NFL and trying to reclaim lost glory. It also seems similar to when Michael Jordan came back to play with the Washington Wizards.

Not speculating that the result of Brady’s season will be like theirs, but at least it appears the public perception has been hit in the same way.

What happened in the 40 days Tom Brady was away?

Shannon Sharpe believes Brady realized a very important aspect about himself during those days, away from the spotlight. That he likes it a lot. Sharpe says“But, the 40 days that he was out he realized that damn! I really do miss this attention, I do miss people talking about me. And if they’re not talking about me, what are they talking about? Oh, Elon Musk wants to buy Twitter? Oh let me see if I can get in on this trending topic. So now, he adds himself to the equation.”

Even in the past, Sharpe has pointed out that Brady is very much like the rest of the players. So, the narrative that he is the ultimate professional, and that he does not care about anything but football and winning games has gotten old now.

If we look at it from Brady’s point of view, all of this helps his brand, helps the Brady name. By getting in on trending topics, you reach even more people and remain relevant. That’s what the big brands do, and Brady is one in himself.

How much is too much?

But the legendary trash-talker Sharpe thinks it is too much and says, “Bro, how much attention do you need? Bro, you’re Tom Brady bro. You’re good. Sit this one out. Every hot topic doesn’t need Tom Brady involved.”

That is a hot take in itself. But if anything, Tom Brady’s social media outreach will only increase from this point forward. As we near the end of his football career, (now even while writing this, no one knows for sure when that will happen!), fans should see him get out more and be involved in more ‘trending topics’ because if Tom Brady’s not playing football, he’ll still need to remain relevant. At least based on what we’ve seen this off-season.
