During a recent interview on the PBD Podcast, Tom Brady seemed to go all in, divulging the initiation period of his football journey. While talking to the host Patrick Bet David, the footballer started by introducing his entry to the high school team. He explained how, before the school team, he had never played football, except for many on the streets.

Adding to that, the former American Professional talked about his first impression of the team. “These kids came out, they had helmets and shoulder pads that they had worn for 4 years through Pop Warner,” was Brady’s cue of entering a completely untouched territory for someone new, like him.

It was at this moment, noticing the seniors around him, that the American star had thought, “I am gonna get killed here.” While the New England Patriots‘ icon could survive the initial sessions, it was his absence from the playing team that made questions loom over the footballer’s head. He humorously commented about being the backup QB of the Junipero Serra High School, California, a team that went 0-8.

Recalling his subpar game during those days, he exclaimed about how bad he had to be, if, despite the team losing, he didn’t even get a single chance to get on the ground. However, matters favored him slightly during the second year when the previous QB left the team to pursue basketball. This is where the NFL legend grabbed the opportunity and pledged to work on his skills.

The humble yet committed character that made Brady, the Tom Terrific

While struggles continued for the former NFL star on the field as a high schooler, and even after that, it was his steadfastness that converted a struggling footballer into the icon the world recognizes today. Tracing back on these lines, Brady, during the same interview, revealed how he would wake up at 6 a.m. for rope drills.

This, per the athlete, was something he had seen a lot of people do. The 46-year-old recalled how he was among the only three people out of 10 individuals who would regularly turn up for practice. For the former professional, his career was all about pushing himself to grow, especially in physical areas.

This allowed Brady to maintain physical fitness and look after his diet as well; constituting the insane work ethic he follows. As the talk about dedication toward football and work continued, the 2007 Bert Bell Awardee shared an important message. He said, “We can continue to improve our weaknesses if we are humble enough to identify them and we can build on our strengths.”
