The NFL scouting combine’s 2022 edition saw athletes sprinting distances with great ease. Tyquan Thornton, the Baylor WR stood out amongst them with his blazing speed in the 40-yard dash. The speedster posted an official running time of 4.28 seconds, which is recorded as the sixth-fastest since 2003 in the history of the NFL. However, what was more captivating was his unofficial record of 4.21 seconds.

His unofficial record could have almost broken the ultimate record of John Ross’s 4.22 seconds in 2017. No doubt, Thornton’s incredible display will surely raise his draft stock for the upcoming editions.
Tyquan Thornton is a rising STAR!
Thornton’s unofficial stint is not something new to him. He is a dual-sport athlete in high school and holds various records under his name. According to a popular news outlet, the wide receiver runs a 100-meter dash in just 10.50 seconds and 200 meters in 21.07s. Altogether, Thornton played in 42 games for the Baylors catching 19 touchdowns in a short span of 4 years.

Indeed, his performance will prove as a deep threat for the opponents in the future. And the speed-hungry franchises would be eagerly waiting to rope him in.

His great display of endurance and grit in the 2021 season and the Combine test will improve his selection chances. Speculators still believe that he may get picked on Day 3, or late Day 2 of the draft.

Well, Thornton’s finish was the sparkling one on Thursday. However, the second-fastest time came from Velus Jones of Tennessee, who completed the dash in 4.31 seconds. In the QB section, Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett ran for 4.73 seconds in a 40-yard dash, while Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder clocked the fastest time of 4.52 seconds among the QBs.

Thornton’s predecessor took to Twitter and appreciated the champ for his achievement. John Ross, who set the record of 4.22 seconds in 2017 was the first person to react, and Patrick Mahomes also joined him.
