Matthew Ryan is a prolific quarterback and he turns 34 today. He made his NFL debut with the Atlanta Falcons when they took him as the third overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. First year general manager Thomas Dimitroff wanted to herald a new era for the quarterback position.

After 12 seasons and 12 QBs, Ryan is still a class apart and continues to go strong. Matthew Ryan needed just one throw to introduce himself with a bang and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. That year, Ryan won the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year honours while throwing for 3,440 yards and grabbing 16 touchdowns.

Ryan became one of 12 quarterbacks in league history to throw for more than 3,000 yards in their rookie seasons. From 2011, the Pennsylvania native built a reputation for consistency. In the same year, he kick-started a nine consecutive seasons 4,000 passing yard-streak.

Owing to his efforts, he became league MVP in 2016 as the Falcons made a surprising Super Bowl run. Even when the team’s Super Bowl hopes in 2017 got dashed, Matt Ryan was practically blameless.

What next for Matthew Ryan and the Falcons?

Now, Ryan and the Falcons are training their focus on the upcoming 2020 season. As always, they head into it with the hope of reaching playoffs. This season is going to be a make or break one for Ryan and the Falcons team and organization. This includes whether all of these coaches and players return, especially since the pandemic is still raging.

Admittedly, Matthew Ryan is still a productive quarterback and has plenty to offer. Many acknowledge that Ryan played a vital role in the team’s success since 2008. If this team is to encounter anymore success going forward, they need Ryan to continue to be his consistent self. There is young pool of talent around Ryan now and the team added a few extra bodies on the roster in free agency.
