On Wednesday, the league announced Munich is going to host the first-ever regular-season game in Germany during the 2022 season. The NFL also further excited their European fans by announcing that Frankfurt will play host for future games in Germany.

It is big news for the league and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who aims to strengthen their relationship with this move. They are staging the visual treat of regular-season NFL football in FC Bayern Munich and their Allianz Arena. It marks the coming together of the American football league and the European football league.

Commissioner Goodell reveals while stating, “We look forward to staging our first game in Germany at FC Bayern Munich’s fantastic stadium later this year and to exploring areas of a broader collaboration with the Bundesliga.” It will be one of the 5 games, the league scheduled for the 2022 season.

The NFL eyes the lucrative European market

The NFL adds Germany to the list of foreign countries where teams will play in 2022. They will join Mexico and the United Kingdom as hosts. They will play one game in South America and the 3 other games in chilly England. The league has enforced rules on NFL teams to play at least one international game every 8 years. The declaration of the teams playing as the home team in these games will be revealed.

Germany and its cities will play hosts for 4 international series games in the next 4 years. Dieter Reiter, the Lord Mayor of Munich, shared his pleasure and desires for a long association with the league.
