Trevor Lawrence is the undisputed favorite to be the #1 pick this year. The Clemson quarterback had an incredible showing during his time with the Tigers, with many calling him a generational talent.

Lawrence is one of the most popular prospects to enter the NFL in recent memory. But one analyst isn’t convinced about the generational talent.

NFL analyst Greg Cosell recently spoke to Rich Eisen about Trevor Lawrence. He noted that prior to him watching Trevor Lawrence; he had heard the rumblings.

Many had called Lawrence a generational talent. However, Cosell didn’t let that impact his opinion. He believes that calling him anything but that would cause widespread concern about his ceiling.

“I think there was a sense of Lawrence and, this doesn’t concern me when I watch tape. There was a sense that Lawrence was generational and I think people started with that as their standard.

“So anything less than talking about him in that way meant that, ‘Oh my god something’s wrong here’.”

Trevor Lawrence- Generational talent?

Cosell added that he did get a chance to watch Lawrence’s tape from college. And while he thinks that Lawrence is a great prospect with excellent attributes, he wouldn’t consider him a generational talent.

While he understands the hype that surrounds Lawrence, he doesn’t see why there are such claims about his potential in the NFL.

“I didn’t start there, I just put the tape on. And I think that Trevor Lawrence is a very good prospect. He’s got high-level traits in many areas.

“I did not come away watching Trevor Lawrence’s tape thinking that he was generational. I came away thinking this kid is a good prospect with higher-level traits.”
