The Miami Dolphins are preparing to take on the New York Jets on Saturday. Miami are enjoying a decent season, with a 6-4 record in the AFC East division.
Whereas, the New York Jets have been scraping the bottom of the barrel, having considering how they’ve lost all their games. On paper, many expect the Dolphins to win this game easily. But football isn’t played on paper.
And it appears the Dolphins will have a handicap. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is listed as an injury doubt for the game.

Good Morning Football’s Mike Garafolo revealed how the injury to Tua was sustained during a training incident. He also revealed that Ryan Fitzpatrick was brought into the fold due to the injury.
He said, “Tua’s(Tagovailoa) status is in question. Not just because he’s listed as questionable, but because he was limited in practice after jamming his throwing thumb on a helmet.
“And was limited enough that the team said, ‘Let’s get Ryan Fitzpatrick some reps here during the week’.”
He added, “That’s not usually how it works. You want your starter to get all of the reps in practice. That’s not what happened in practice.”
Tua Tagovailoa – injury concerns
Garafolo revealed that Brian Flores saw the footage from training and made the call to let Fitzpatrick get some practice in, just to be on the safer side.
“So Brian Flores yesterday saying, ‘I’m going to go back and look at the tape of practice and see who can be most effective’. And if they feel like the thumb issue was affecting Tua’s ability to really do what he needs to do, then I wouldn’t be surprised if they lean back on Ryan Fitzpatrick the way they did in the middle of the game last week.”
From @gmfb: The #Dolphins won't force Tua Tagovailoa to fight through a thumb injury vs. the #Jets if they believe it's affecting him at all. His status for tomorrow is very much in question. pic.twitter.com/rwqpOeZx9N

Garafolo believes that there is no reason for the Dolphins to risk Tua for a game against the Jets when they have a reliable lieutenant in Fitzpatrick.
“They’re not going to have him try to force his way through something if he can’t do that when they’ve got a reliable back-up that can show him how the game needs to be played.

“Remember, Tua is still learning while he watches Fitz. And keep them in contention, they’re in the middle of a playoff race here.”
It will be interesting to see if Tua’s status changes before the game kicks off tomorrow. Regardless of who plays as the quarterback, the Dolphins should be confident about taking on the lackluster Jets.
