Tua Tagovailoa will get his chance as the starting quarterback next season. His rookie year with the Miami Dolphins allowed him to learn Brian Flores’ system, while also get some valuable experience.

He split quarterback duties with veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick last season. But this year, Tagovailoa will be the undisputed first option at quarterback. And one analyst believes that the coaching staff will be key to his success.

NFL analyst Peter Schrager spoke on Good Morning Football about Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins. He believes that someone like Eric Studesville will be a huge influence on Tagovailoa.

Studesville has been in the NFL for decades and has been with the Dolphins since Flores arrived. Furthermore, he can help teach the running backs how to make the right plays for Tagovailoa, given his experience working with some of the greats.

“I want to focus on the coaches here because I think this is the key. Let’s start with Eric Studesville, not a familiar name to many, but guess what – 24 seasons of NFL coach experience, been with the Dolphins since Flores got there.

“He has coached every running back from Tiki Barber to Marshawn Lynch. He’s going to be one of the co-offensive coordinators.”

Tua Tagovailoa has good mentorship in Miami

Schrager added that George Godsey, the second half of that equation, is equally important. Godsey has been in the NFL for a long time in his own right and has experience working with tight ends on different teams in the NFL.

Studesville and Godsey will be the primary orchestrators of the plays that Tagovailoa will run during the season. Their instructions to him and the team will have a huge impact on their success next season.

“The other is George Godsey, who has been in the NFL for 10 years. He was a Dolphins’ tight ends coach last couple of years, but also was with the Lions, the Texans, the Patriots.

“These are going to be the guys that help build an offense that is for Tua. Does the success of Tua play the biggest role in the Dolphins’ season? Of course. This guy has to be good, if he is not good, this team is not going to get to the playoffs.”
