Schrager talked about how Drew Brees transformed the New Orleans Saints from a low-performing team to a juggernaut in the NFL. And his time with the  Chargers was marred with bad luck, which is why he left, and almost joined the Miami Dolphins.

“Drew Brees was signed by the Saints, and he took a franchise that been for years a punchline to one of the best in the course of two decades. We know the story.

“He was in San Diego, they drafted Phillip Rivers, he has a shoulder injury in the final game of a regular season where they say ‘okay, you’re not good at throwing a football’.

“(He) goes and visits the Miami Dolphins, Nick Saban wanted him to be the quarterback. The trainer said you can’t sign this guy in good faith.”

Drew Brees took a chance on the Saints

Schrager added that Brees went to play for the Saints when no one wanted to. And since his arrival, the team has been very successful.

Schrager compared the numbers for the Saints in the 50 years before his arrival and the 14 years after. The comparison between the two eras shows how pivotal Brees was. This is why he is the greatest acquisition in NFL history.

“One team left, and there’s one team that no one wanted to play for and that’s the Saints, and it was a match made in heaven.

“Sean Payton sign Drew Brees, the rest is history. Before Brees got there, and then after Brees got there, the numbers are outstanding.”

He added,  “This is over the course of 50 years, 7 winning seasons, 9 in the 14 seasons he played for them. Wins the only Super Bowl title that ever comes to them.

Is Drew Brees the greatest acquisition in NFL history? Schrager made some great points in his argument. However, there are several other signings in that same vein.
