San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel has been earning himself a reputation for the right reasons on the football field. One of the critics of Samuel was NFL analyst Colin Cowherd during his show ‘The Herd with Colin Cowherd’. Cowherd was highly critical of his ‘juvenile’ act of deleting his 49ers profile picture, unfollowing them, and deleting over 80 posts on his Instagram.
He also adds that he believes that Samuel should be franchise tagged by the Niners franchise. It might be an option for the franchise while observing the pay rise of NFL WRs.

However, the veteran analyst does base his analysis on his poor injury record and the physicality in the receiver’s game. The versatility of his game and his positions in Kyle Shanahan’s system raises questions about his long-term availability. The one-dimensional yet old-school play of Samuel is not sustainable in Cowherd’s eyes.
Colin Cowherd calls out Deebo Samuel and the trend of temper tantrums
While Cowherd shows his appreciation for Samuel’s game and his unique skill-set, he is not a fan of players forcing the issue. He labels the wideout’s actions of deleting posts on social media to be childish and an emerging trend. He adds that the expectation to be paid for his value is unrealistic and far from a rational decision for the franchise.

Apart from this, Cowherd believes Samuel has not consistently played all games during an NFL campaign throughout his career. He did raise concerns about him and RB George Kittle and their style of play. He mentions how franchise-tagging Samuel will benefit the franchise and allows them to evaluate him further.

While his suggestion seems unfair after the Niners wideout’s electrifying 2021 campaign, the Niners might consider this option. Samuel can earn a bigger and more respectable contract if he reciprocates or produces a better season in 2022. The 49ers fans will hope he is up for the challenge and the organization can convince him to stay for another season.
