Sometimes preseason proves to be a nightmare for franchises as they tend to lose one or more players with severe injuries. And that is why teams often refrain from letting their trump cards get on the field. Something similar happened with the New York Jets during their first preseason face-off against the Philadelphia Eagles. Second-year quarterback Zach Wilson was taken away limping to the locker room after he suffered a non-contact injury on his right knee.

The incident happened in the first quarter while Wilson was leading the offense, scrambling across the field. He was pocketing out of the defensive reach but stumbled over the turf and fell to the ground. When he got up, the signal-caller found difficulty in walking, thereby heading to the locker room. Later on, it was revealed he suffered a bone bruise and was diagnosed with a meniscus tear.
As per the reports, this injury keeps him at least 2 to 4 weeks away from the field. NFL Insider Adam Schefter broke the news through Twitter. “Jets’ QB Zach Wilson has a bone bruise and a meniscus tear and is expected to miss 2-4 weeks, as Brian Costello also reported. Wilson will undergo arthroscopic surgery to address and correct the injury. Jets consider it fortunate news.” he wrote.

Well, to everyone’s surprise, Schefter mentioned the franchise considers the news to be “fortunate“. Because earlier, he was reported to undergo arthroscopic surgery, but recent updates claim the injury only requires a trim. There is no need for a full repair as the right knee is still looking good giving him more time to heal and get back on board quickly.
Meanwhile, his chances to play in the remaining preseason games have been completely ruled out; however, there have been concerns over the Jets’ first season opener on September 11th. Even if Wilson is benched for practice sessions, former Super Bowl champion Joe Flacco is available as a backup. With three career starts, Mike White and Chris Streveler are the other players in the quarterback room.
If not Zach Wilson, then what did the HC have to say about Joe Flacco?
After the match, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh came forward to share updates on Zach Wilson and his possible replacement in the future. Without a second thought, Saleh revealed that they have plenty of options, and Joe Flacco will be the favorite to start in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens.

“You guys know how I feel about Joe — everyone does, the whole world does,” Saleh said Friday night. “Joe’s a phenomenal football player. He’s having a great camp, and he’s got a lot of juice left in the tank,” he added.

The 37-year-old has immense experience leading a side to the Super Bowl, which he won in 2012. The Jets acquired the veteran this offseason, and it seems their choice didn’t go in vain. Hopefully, Wilson gets back to action as soon as he recovers; till then, Flacco will remain the top prospect to lead the offense.
