After the lucrative trade of Aaron Rodgers, the Jets might not be pulling their purse strings yet. They might splurge a bit more to bolster their offenses for the quarterback’s first season. With enormous expectations in Rodgers, the team is fairly apprehensive about the recovery of running back, Breece Hall, who underwent surgery after tearing his ACL last season. While there is hope that Hall will be back by week 1, it’s unlikely that he would have to carry a heavy load early on. This urges the Jets to snag some additional depth in their backfield.
The word on the street is that the Jets have their eyes on the free agent running back Dalvin Cook.

The potential interest of the Jets in the Pro-Bowler has been swirling around for quite some time. However, they have gained momentum once again with the recent comments made by NBC Sports’ Mike Florio.
“The Jets are a team that I was aware of as a potential destination for Cook weeks before he was actually cut,” Florio said.
“The Breece Hall angle is why they’d be interested in Cook. We don’t know how healthy Breece Hall will be. We don’t know if he’ll be ready week one… and if you could get Dalvin Cook for a reasonable contract and pair him with Rodgers and that passing game and that defense that is very good, that helps the Jets stand out in the AFC East.”, he further added.
Currently, the Jets’ running back squad includes former fourth-rounder Michael Carter, Zonovan Knight, fifth-round rookie Israel Abanikanda, and undrafted rookie Travis Dye with Hall at the helm. And they are not dismissing the idea of having additional strength to beef up the stable.

Back in June when inquired about the Green Gang’s interest in Dalvin Cook, Jets coach Robert Saleh has a positive response. “We’ll turn the stones over on that one,”, he stated.
Is Cook a good fit?
Dalvin Cook was signed by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Later the pro-Bowler signed a massive five-year, $63 million extension with the franchise. Despite Cook being named to his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl in 2022, Minnesota made the move to release him to save over $9 million in space, back in June.

In the 2022 season, Cook Started all 17 games for the Vikings. He carried the ball 264 times for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns. Additionally, Cook also caught 39 of 56 targets for 295 yards and two touchdowns. Dubbed one of the top ball carriers in the league with an impressive record, it would make sense that Cook qualifies as a good catch for the Jets. If the Jets are ready to cough up Cook’s reported $7+ million asking price, it would be an epic merge.
