Washington Football Team announces a much-needed change in logo and name

Earlier today, Washington football team President Jason Wright announced the change of the team’s name. The name, adopted in 2020 is soon set to get refreshed. President Wright took to Washington’s website to make this announcement.

“We can finally say that we are in the home stretch of our rebrand journey,” said Wright. He then promised that the new name is curated with much precision and detail. “We know this has been a long process — one with a lot of pieces and details — and we appreciate you sticking with us,” revealed Jason emphatically. Wright also shared that the logo will be revealed on 2nd February at NBC’s ‘Today’ Show.

Washinton won’t be named “Wolves” and RedWolves”; confirms President Jason Wright

For those who don’t know, the Washington Football Team was originally called “Washington Redskins”. However, in 2020, the name was changed. The change of name was requested by Native Americans and corporate sponsors FedEx owing to the racist undertones in the name.

Ever since then, the fans weren’t happy with Washington’s name due to obvious reasons. Hence the supports used to refer to them as “Wolves” and “RedWolves”. However, Wright confirmed that these names won’t be used owing to their close alignment with Native American themes; potentially leading to legal hurdles.

Understanding the weight and importance of our team name, and excitement around other name options — both internally and within our fan base — we didn’t want to risk going down a route that could be dotted with legal hurdles,” cautiously revealed the President.
