The Green Bay Packers have addressed their major vacant position on the line-up. After Davante Adams left for Las Vegas, Green Bay had a major spot to fill. The franchise has finally made the move by signing a new free-agent receiver. With this move, Aaron Rodgers looks excited about having a new veteran receiver, Sammy Watkins.

The Packers are in desperate need of wide receivers this summer. While many predict the Packers to take a WR with one of their two first-round selections, the team has been pursuing free agents. Now, with their newest addition, Green Bay fills the void of a reliable pass catcher on the team.

The Packers signed wide receiver Sammy Watkins, the former No.4 overall pick, on Thursday. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal is for one year and worth $4 million.

Aaron Rodgers receives a fresh ammunition

Rodgers texted his pal Pat McAfee on his live Sirius XM Radio’s ‘The Patt McAfee Show’ the same day to express his excitement over Watkins’ acquisition. Aaron Rodgers is “excited” about the Packers recruiting wide receiver Sammy Watkins, according to McAfee.

According to the text, it said: “Talked to Sammy Watkins last night. Excited about the signing. Can’t wait to get to work.”

When the Buffalo Bills drafted Sammy Watkins in 2014, he made an immediate impact. The 29-year-old has snagged 348 catches for 5,059 yardage and 34 touchdowns. During his eight NFL seasons, Sammy Watkins has traveled around. He has also been with the Rams, Chiefs, and Ravens.

At the wide receiver position, Sammy Watkins is precisely just what Packers desired. He’s a veteran who can come out and play right off the bat. Watkins playing alongside Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, might boost his output.

The Packers can go tri-wide with Sammy, Allen Lazard, and Randall Cobb if everyone is on the field. Amari Rodgers, the squad’s third-round pick the year before, is also making strides. Despite this contract, the Packers are expected to acquire a wide receiver from the first round later in the NFL Draft this month.
