Drew Brees joined the New Orleans Saints as a free agent back in 2006. The former 2nd-round pick (32nd overall) left the San Diego Chargers in search of greener pastures.
He attracted interest from coach Sean Payton, who was in the infancy of his career as an NFL Head Coach in New Orleans. The rest, as they say, is history.
The 42-year-old quarterback announced his decision to retire from the NFL on Sunday night. Prior to that announcement, Drew Brees was reportedly ready to return for ‘one last dance’ with the Saints in 2021. But he opted to go out on a high, having led the Saints to the NFC South title once again in 2020.
