At a recent news conference, Ari Meirov shared a short video where the new owner of the Commanders, Josh Harris, talked about the team’s past success. He revealed that when the team used to be known as the Redskins, they were once the number one franchise in the NFL, not the Dallas Cowboys.

In a short video via Twitter, where the owner of the New Commanders, stated at Press: “It’s hard to imagine but I’ve seen the numbers. The Commanders were once the #1 franchise in the NFL back when they were the Redskins. Not the Dallas Cowboys.”

As if the new owner also issued a warning to Jerry Jones’ Cowboys to be careful. However, according to an ESPN report, Harris was not yet prepared to discuss the possibility of changing the team’s name, possibly this topic would be addressed on another day. Also, during the news conference, Harris emphasized “A lot of stuff happened that was unfortunate,” and now their main focus is on transforming the team’s culture. The glory days for the Commanders?

It’s true that the Washington Football Team, now known as the Washington Commanders, had a great period between 1982 and 1991. They made it to the postseason seven times during those years, winning four Conference titles and three Super Bowls out of four appearances. This success was under the coaching of Joe Gibbs and with star players like quarterback Joe Theismann and running back John Riggins.

During that time, the Dallas Cowboys didn’t win any Super Bowls, and this decade might be the period Josh Harris is referring to when talking about Washington’s dominance over Dallas. However, Dallas made an incredible comeback after that. From 1993 to 1996, they won three Super Bowls out of four appearances, which was truly impressive.
