This is a big compliment as it is coming from Manning himself, but who exactly got this title?

Peyton Manning crowned the new ‘Sheriff’

Peyton Manning crowned the new sheriff while talking as the guest picker on ESPN’s ‘College Game Day’ where his college team, the Tennessee Volunteers, took on the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The former Denver Broncos QB Manning gave the title of ‘The Sheriff” to his college’s quarterback, Hendon Hooker.

“Tennessee needs something Alabama proof. We haven’t had it in 15 years, but I think we have it now. His name is Hendon Hooker. He’s the new sheriff in town. I’m going with the Tennessee Vols in a close one,” Manning said on the Game Day show.

Hooker has been in fine form for the Volunteers this season, with 1432 passing yards and ten touchdown passes. He has led his team to a 6-0 start to the season and the Volunteers look like genuine contenders for the title this season. Hooker now has added another feather to his cap by getting noticed by one of the greatest players to play in his position.

Hendon Hooker’s performance against Alabama

Hooker stepped up when it mattered and gave a performance of a lifetime for his college. The Volunteers had not won in the last 15 games against Alabama going into this one, but Hooker didn’t look like he was under pressure. He led his team to a victory and snapped the humbling losing streak against the opponents of the day. The Volunteers won 52-49 and stamped themselves as genuine contenders for the title.

The QB himself posted great stats in the game and lived up to the title given by Manning. He threw 385 yards in passing and 5 of his passes resulted in touchdowns. The Alabama defense only intercepted one of Hooker’s passes. He also ran an additional 56 yards in rushing to help his team carry the ball forward and keep them on the attack.

The Volunteers sit second in the SEC East in the Southeastern Conference of NCAA division one after winning all their six games to date. The team from Tennessee will next take on their local rivals, the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks, in their next game.
