Turning around a franchise in the NFC East is far more different than changing ways for a college team from the SWAC East. Moreover, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is not looking for a replacement for their head coach, Mike McCarthy. Yet, NBA star and NFL fan Shaquille O’Neal has been rooting for Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders as the magic potion that could potentially cure the woes of the franchise since 1996.
But can Sanders do a better job than the present head coach? Mike McCarthy has taken the franchise to two playoffs in his three years with the team. Last year, Dallas Cowboys suffered a loss to the 49ers in their divisional round but Dak Prescott was appreciated for his work in the pocket. All in all, the Cowboys have been faring well in the last few seasons, and they seem really close to a championship run.
So, is it wise to replace a HC with a record of 155-97-2 with a college coach? Well, certainly, Shaq thinks so.

Shaquille O’Neal is still not over it
Shaq is known for his humorous takes and ruthless opinion. Just as much as he likes to shower his love for the Cowboys, from time to time, he also does not waste time ripping on them. Shaq recently shared a reel that featured Jerry Jones, whose face was edited on that of a cowboy, do a pelvic thrust number. He was then randomly paired with two team players at a time, as they all took turns in the dance fest. The caption of the Instagram reel read, “Cowboys training camp be like,” hinting that the players aren’t really training but dancing around with their owner.

Shaq was fed up with the players’ lack of responsibilities and overall subpar performance in the wild-card round finale that he demanded change. In 2022, he urged the Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, to instate Deion Sanders in the coach’s lounge, highlighting how it could make a big positive difference. He vouched for Sanders, as he was confident Sanders wouldn’t let a defeat like that go to waste, holding every guilty player accountable and making changes for the better.

For more than a quarter of a century, the Dallas Cowboys has not appeared in the NFC championship game, let alone a Super Bowl win. The last (and their fifth) win was recorded in 1995 when Sanders played a pivotal role while he was still in his first year with the franchise. Additionally, Sanders-led JSU clinched the 2022 SWAC title as well as a Celebration Bowl appearance.

Is there hope for the Cowboys yet?
Big Shaq’s favorite team hasn’t gone further than the divisional round of the playoffs since the 1995 season. So, it would be very unfair to say that Shaq is the only one who is mad at the Cowboys. Recently, the fans went bonkers when Dak Prescott, the star QB of the team, was put beside other reputable quarterbacks in the league, hinting that he does not deserve a place on the list. Prescott has been loyal to the team, but his performance doesn’t seem to get any better. Their offensive team has been in shambles for a while now.
But there still might be hope, as the team has seen significant changes this season for the better. The offensive coordinator of the team, Kellen Moore, was straight-up fired for his negligence. The head coach of the team also was shoved with a few more responsibilities so that the team actually has a chance this season. So, while some fans might have given up, the dream still lives on for the once-mighty Cowboys.
