Peyton Manning has had an illustrious career as a NFL quarterback. Spanning for 18 seasons, 71,940 passing yards, and 539 touchdowns. The quarterback played for two teams and won a super bowl with both of them. NBA legend, Magic Johnson, even tried to recruit him for the LA Rams after the player announced his retirement.

After the 2015 NFL season, the league announced that the Rams will be returning to Los Angeles. According to Magic Johnson, he was the first person in the season ticket queue. The NBA Hall of Famer even tried to recruit one of the greatest quarterback in NFL as well. Appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, he was joined by Peyton Manning at the time as well. Magic said, “Man if you play again come to the Rams.”
How Magic Johnson tried to recruit Peyton Manning
During the show, Johnson further said, “I was working on him backstage. I will even chip in some money.” added the 5-time NBA champion. Even though, Peyton had just announced his retirement the previous season. Magic explained how he was trying to talk somebody out of his retirement. Any deal at that time to lure Peyton back on the field would have needed to be a lucrative one. And Magic Johnson was ready to chip in with his own money to see the deal closed.
However, the NFL star was not convinced and stayed retired. It would have been a great joy for the LA fans to see a player of Peyton’s calibre put on their colours. Especially for the season ticket holders like Magic Johnson. But it never came to fruition, as Peyton had made up his mind.
The Rams started their operations from Los Angeles in 1946 and stayed there until 1994. Moving to St. Louis for a twenty-year period from 1945 to 2015. They later returned to their actual home after the 2015 season. It elated fans, after going through a period where they had no team to cheer for. Raiders who were also present in LA left at the same time as the Rams.

Even so, Magic Johnson was still cheering for others and specifically for Peyton Manning. He also expressed his extreme desire to be able to cheer for Peyton as he plays for the LA Rams.

Even though Peyton Manning did not end up playing for the Rams. Magic still had much to cheer for. Since 2016, the Rams have made it to two super bowls. While one was a disappointment in 2019, when a New England Patriots, led by Tom Brady, spoiled the parade for them. They went all in for a super team. With players like Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey on the defensive side. And Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, and Odell Beckham Jr, the team, won their 2nd super bowl in 2021-22 season.
