However, he is considered a role model in horizons that stretches beyond football. One big example of this would be when Boston Celtics used the then New England Patriots quarterback to lure in the hotshot Small Forward free agent of the NBA, Kevin Durant.

It was surely a great attempt to attract Durant with a successful face, but as history has it, he rather chose to sign the Golden State Warriors. He went on to win two back-to-back championships along with two back-to-back NBA MVPs in 2017 and 20018 with them. It was clearly not a bad decision made by Durant.
However, it was Durant admitted that it was a little enticing at first to see someone with four Super Bowl titles sitting waiting for Durant to sign the contract.

Kevin Durant on seeing Tom Brady with the Boston Celtics
“I was ready to just say, ‘All right. Let’s go. I’m ready to go,’ seeing Tom Brady there,” Durant told the Boston Herald in 2016. “Just seeing someone so successful at his craft and just a great ambassador for the game of football and the city of Boston, it was just great to be in the presence of greatness. But, at the same time, I knew I couldn’t let that distract me. But he was great. It was great to see him.”

However, the magic charm did not work well in captivating the NBA star. He contained his emotions and went with his gut. A few years later when asked about that incident he told to The Athletic, “I mean, I love Tom Brady, but I don’t know if he can help me if he was on the court with me right now.”

Durant certainly had a point. Even though Brady being the figure of success was a great strategy for the Celtics to attract Durant. He wasn’t going to be the won help him win games. Hence, Durant went with a wise choice in the end.
