The NFL in the 90s was entirely something else. Legends today were only rookies back then, and only a handful of players from that era still remain closely associated with the league. Deion Sanders is definitely one of those few people who still has some football left in him. He is making headlines almost every single day after his takeover of the Colorado Buffaloes in the past few months. However, in a recent video, he was seen reliving the past in the 90s and clarifying some moments that were taken way out of proportion.

Everyone remembers the epic rivalry between Sanders and Rison, that led to their outburst in the field in 1994. However, the duo’s recent explainantion even got the NBA legend, Shaquille O’Neal, excited.

Just a week prior, Sanders reunited with his former teammate, Andre Rison, on the campus of Colorado University. The Duo talked about numerous memories they share and mostly about the journeys they took to reach where they are today. However, when they delved back to the moment that took place while they were facing each other, even Sanders came close to Rison before clarifying the story.

When the duo began to delve into the explanation, Sanders started it with, “My boy was mad that I left,” pointing at his exit from the Falcons in 1993. Rison even emphasized it and added, “I was hurtful”. Coach Prime further added that his departure from the team had hurt his friend, and their word exchanges weren’t also very nice at that time. Therefore, after one year of little to no connection, when they met on the field, they brawled it out.

Coach Prime then revealed that right after their fight on the field, they both felt better and asked each other if everything was okay, and made up. After this interview was posted online, clips from the video were shared like wildfire all over the internet and even caught the attention of Shaq. The NBA legend has always been very vocal about his support for Sanders, be it the Colorado move or even the recent “spanking children” remark. After stumbling upon Sanders’ reunion, he shared the clip of their reunion on his Instagram story.

What led to the duel?

Devon Sander used to be called ‘Prime Time’ for a reason. During his 5 years with the Falcons, he was one of the most ruthless cornerbacks in the league. However, he wanted to go in a different way from his team in search of newer opportunities. He mostly coveted to play for the Buccaneers or the 49ers while being a free agent.

San Francisco 49ers were trying to get back in the game in the same year after two consecutive defeats in the conference championship. The team recruited Sanders, along with various veteran players, for their team to dominate the league. It all seemed well until the 49ers met Sanders’ former team, the Falcons on the court. There were already serious tensions between Sanders and Risons for a while, and that led to the outburst on the field. Clips of the fight are still shared to this day on social media. However, the duo patched up their rivalry a long time ago and proceeded to be great friends again. The duo left the field a while back, but they both ended up on the same career path. Rison also became a football coach and has been associated with football even after his retirement. He was even nominated for the 2022 Pro Football Hall of Fame.
