Remember when a New England Patriots fan sued his own team over a Tom Brady signed Stars and Stripes? It seems now any fan can get hold of that flag. Just a few months after the lawsuit drama, the historic flag is up for grabs in an eBay auction and it’s sure to fetch a pretty penny!

So, anyone could have that flag signed by arguably the greatest QB of the NFL for themselves. The only catch is that the person should have deep pockets.

An online auction is coming up for the Stars and the Stripes that Tom Brady signed for a fan during his days with the Patriots.  This iconic piece of sports history was previously kept safe and sound in the team’s Hall of Fame, but now the owner of the flag, Dan Vitale, has decided to put it up for auction on eBay. The starting price of the auction is $299,999, according to TMZ Sports.

Vitale isn’t keeping the money for himself though. He is reportedly giving a portion of the proceeds to Behavioral Health and Developmental Services of Strafford County, Inc. The non-profit works for people on the autism spectrum. According to Vitale, he will keep the other part of the proceeds in a trust fund for his daughter who is on the spectrum.

“While the flag holds a lot of value to me personally, I could not be more thrilled to auction it on eBay so another collector can own this rare piece of sports history and in the process, support those with autism — including my youngest daughter,” TMZ Sports quoted Vitale as saying.

The eBay auction will later this month on March 23 and will go on till April 1. Apart from being a Brady memorabilia, the has seen its share of controversy recently.

The lawsuit against the Patriots

Dan Vitale had sent the flag over to the Patriots to display in the franchise Hall of Fame but he sued the franchise as the Tom Brady autograph on the flag faded over the years. He accused the Foxborough officials of improperly handling it, thus causing the fade. Brady re-signed the flag in 2022, ending the controversy.

The flag made its way to the Patriots in 2001 for an NFL game. That particular year marked the beginning of Brady’s reign as the starting quarterback for Bill Belichick’s team. Over the course of his time with the franchise, he led them to victory in an astounding six Super Bowls, solidifying his place in the never-ending debate over who is the greatest of all time. Many years later, Brady signed the very same flag that bears witness to his legendary career.

While Vitale thinks it can fetch over a million dollars, it will be interesting to see how much it goes for.
