Concussions are always a big damper in the spirit that an NFL season brings. Now, the league is taking steps to ensure it doesn’t happen again, starting the 2023 season. Months after the brutal concussion, the NFL has unveiled a quarterback special helmet to battle the problem.

Football is a brutal sport for the players involved, especially the QB. He always has the whole defense running after his life. The league has taken this step to reduce the chances of a Tagovailoa-type incident happening again. But what is it that is so special about this helmet?

Whenever a QB gets sacked in the NFL, the first thought that comes to anybody’s mind is, did he suffer a concussion incident? The NFL has decided to tackle the problem by introducing a position specific helmet that is designed to help in that battle. According to an ABC11 report, the new helmets will be available for the QBs when the preseason rolls around in a few months.

The study backing the helmet has suggested that half of the concussions for the QBs last year happened when the helmet slammed to the ground. That severity of the impact is what the new gear aims to reduce. It will be optional to wear the helmet starting the upcoming preseason. But surely, many will want to test out the new tool.

The Tua Tagovailoa horror

Tua Tagovailoa suffered a horrific concussion injury early last season when he went down against the Cincinnati Bengals. The QB had come into the game with injuries plaguing him. The head injury just added a scary element to it. The QB recovered quickly and returned to the field in a couple of weeks. But it wasn’t the only time he suffered such a fate.

He suffered another concussion later in the season and had to sit out the team’s first playoff appearance in 2016. That did not help the team as they struggled without their star QB and crashed out on the first hurdle in the postseason.
