Bill Huber of Packer Central reported that Green Bay is signing QB Alex McGough after the 27-year-old Tampa-born athlete’s strong USFL season. It was also reported that McGough “worked out for the team on Tuesday” and “signed a contract later that day.” The team hasn’t announced its corresponding roster yet.
Packers’ also made a few changes – signed TE Luke Musgrave to its rookie contract and released DJ Scaife. The move comes ahead of the Packers’ training camp, scheduled to begin on July 26, 2023 (Wednesday). Alex McGough’s reported signing with the Packers’ reflects how a player’s capabilities don’t go unnoticed. McGough, who took charge after Birmingham Stallions’ starter J’Mar Smith suffered an injury, led his team to a jaw-dropping 8-2 regular season.
Also being victorious at a South Division Championship, McGough and the Stallions’ squad crushed the Pittsburgh Maulers, taking home the USFL championship trophy. McGough, who became the first Stallion to win the USFL MVP, shared in an interview with CBS Sports that he grew up cheering for Brady and Rodgers.

However, it was Denver Broncos‘ Russell Wilson who taught him some of the best on-field skills. McGough said, “He taught me how to set up the D-line. He manipulated them in ways I never did before. He knows how to look people off in ways where he’s still seeing what he needs to see. Really grateful for the time I was able to spend with him.”
