The Baltimore Ravens have finally put their QB woes to rest. After months of stale negotiations with Lamar Jackson, the franchise agreed to a five-year $260 million contract extension with the 26-year-old last month. This ensures that Lamar Jackson still plays with the Ravens, despite being non-exclusive franchise tagged earlier this year. With their QB in place and also the addition of WR Odell Beckham Jr, the Ravens will be hoping that their boosted arsenal of offense performs with flying colors in the upcoming season of the NFL.

While the future of Jackson is now set with the team, it was still a turbulent time for the franchise and HC John Harbaugh. Not acquiring Lamar Jackson would have meant that the team would have had to scout for other potential QBs to fill his shoes on the roster. And he recently spoke up about his perspective on the whole Jackson drama that was unfolding in front of his eyes.

During a recent episode of the Rich Eisen show, Ravens HC John Harbaugh joined insider Rich Eisen to discuss the handling of Jackson’s contract drama and how the team always kept their faith in their QB. Eisen questioned Harbaugh if he ever felt the pressure building up with how things were looking with the contract stance of the QB. To this, Harbaugh said that while it was indeed a frustrating time, they were sure of how to proceed with the whole situation in the best interest of the entire franchise.

Harbaugh said, “You get, you know, frustrated and disappointed or kind of pull your hair out sometimes. We’d already built relationships. It wasn’t like talking about people who didn’t know each other, hadn’t been through a lot together so that was one plus. And the other plus I think was just the mindset that we kind of took.” The HC stated that while dealing with Jackson, the team did not want to do anything that would “jeopardize what’s best for the team and the organization”

Along with the historical Jackson contract, the Baltimore Ravens have put in the effort to restructure their roster for the 2023 season. And one of the biggest signings in the offseason was the acquisition of WR Odell Beckham Jr on a one-year contract worth up to $18 million. While Jackson is known to be a QB with a good rushing game, he is also focusing on changing his play style to be more pass-oriented, with the type of wide receivers the team has brought in. They also brought in WR Zay Flowers in the first round of the 2023 draft. While Jackson missed the first day of the OTAs, he showed up for day two, as HC Harbaugh mentions it to be an important aspect of the holistic growth of the team. As the activities are voluntary, OBJ and Mark Andrews are working out in Arizona individually.
