Trash-talking players are not uncommon in the NFL, but Detroit Lions’ new wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is giving the term a whole new twisted meaning. In the Lions v Commanders post-game press conference, the 2021 draft pick seemed to have a bone to pick with Commanders’ WR Dyami Brown, who was picked before St. Brown. Evidently, the incident has made a substantial mark on St. Brown, using this as a reason to talk about Brown. The NFL world was all in for the verbal battle. Even the Cheetah Tyreek Hill got in on the action.

“The draft, it is what it is,” St. Brown said. “Even the Commanders, they got a guy before me over there. I believe his name is Dyami Brown. I don’t know how many catches he had. You guys can probably tell me that. Or how many yards he had. I don’t forget things like that. I see him across the sideline from where I’m standing during the game, and I’m going to give every team hell… I didn’t see him in the game much.”

Detroit Lions’ latest Draft Pick: How it looks for Amon-Ra St. Brown

The Lions picked St. Brown in the fourth round, 112 overall, while Brown was 30 places ahead at 82. In fact, St. Brown was picked only after 16 other receivers had been picked. And the WR is showing all those teams that they made a mistake.

St. Brown now has 19 games under his belt, and he has had eight or more receptions in the last eight games. Adding to the feather hat, he is only the third player under 23 to score a touchdown in six consecutive games, equalling Hall of Famers Randy Moss and TE Rob Gronkowski.

NFL fans and Tyreek Hill react to a necessary part of the spectacle: Trash Talking?

While this may be a new occurrence in the NFL, the NBA has had its fair share of trivial hype reasons. With Michael Jordan making up stories against players in order to get him into a destructive form, some may argue that as long as the intent is competitive and not slanderous, no harm done. But MJ did walk the talk, so the bigger question is, can St.Brown follow up on his claims?

Miami Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill and others in the NFL community certainly have a lot to say about St. Brown’s choice of words.

By all accounts, it looks like St. Brown is en route to making a dominant mark on the NFL’s record books. But as much as it will be enjoyable to see St. Brown make his mark, it will be much more entertaining to watch as he challenges the other 15 receivers as and when he faces them, for, in his own words, he doesn’t “forget things.”
